Announcements & Events

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 19-20 school year!  I hope your summer was full of quality family time and relaxation! Last school year was another successful year for La Rosa staff and students.  One of our staff members, Ilaen Marron, was recognized with awards at the site, district, and county level.  She was named Teacher of the Year for La Rosa and Ceres Unified. She was also the only recipient from the county nominees to receive the Jane Johnston Civility Award.  We are very proud of her. We also had three of our amazing teachers retire this past school year; Sandra Reeves-K (21 years); Mary Shouse-4th (32 years); Susan Peters-3rd (37 Years). We appreciate their years of service and are grateful for the positive impact they have had on their students and colleagues for several decades.  We will miss them but wish them well in the next chapter of their lives. As you are aware, we started our Attendance Challenges in the 17-18 school year. However, 2018-2019 was the first full year that we implemented Attendance Challenges for the entire school year.  The results have been tremendous! We are continuing to decrease the number of tardies and early checkouts. This past school year, we also implemented two new programs, our recycling program and ParentSquare. Our recycling program was a way for us to reduce the waste in the cafeteria through recycling.  This program required that our students become more globally aware and understand what can and cannot be recycled. Instead of having one garbage can, we now have three color-coded cans that students use to separate their garbage into based on what can and cannot be recycled. The students are learning to be more earth friendly and responsible consumers.  ParentSquare is a 2-way communication tool used by schools to send out important phone messages, school-wide memos or individual student messages. Parents can download the app on their phone and send messages to the school office or an individual teacher. We are still learning all of its capabilities. However, so far, feedback from staff and families has been positive.  While there were many positives to take from last year, I am extremely excited about some of the things we have planned for the 2019-2020 school year! We will be hosting a 7-week class, called Factor (Families Acting Towards Results) for parents. We will also be starting the Hero program for students. Students will gain points for positive behaviors. They will then be able to redeem points at lunchtime for trinkets, food snacks, school supplies, etc.  We will also be introducing games on the yard during the 11:30-1:00 P.M. lunchtime. Our hope is to get more students engaged while decreasing behavior issues. However, in order to make this work, we will need several parent volunteers from the 11:30-1:00 P.M. time daily. (La Rosa Parent Squad) If you are able to volunteer during that time, please call the school or make an appointment to come in and see me.  I enjoy meeting families and value your input and support.  For more information, visit our La Rosa Elementary Facebook Page.
